Application and admission

Candidates can apply to the program without any restriction of age or citizenship. Requirements for admission to PhD programs are specified by national laws. Application deadlines are established on a yearly basis and are given high visibility through the appearance of advertisement on major specialized international journals and the publication of an official call on the website of the University of Bologna (http://www.unibo.it). Applications can be filled out either in English or in Italian. To apply for the program, candidates should follow the detailed instructions in the official website of the University of Bologna.

Application must be sent by May 15th 2019 at 1.00 pm (Italian time). The admission exam (interview) will take place on July 3rd 2019 at Dipartimento di Psicologia, University of Bologna, viale Berti Pichat 5, Bologna. JICN program will start by November 1st 2019.

 


Requirements

An Italian university degree (laurea specialistica/magistrale - 3+2 years) or pre-reform degree (vecchio ordinamento - 4 years) or an equivalent degree obtained abroad.

 


Candidate selection and assessment criteria

1. Assessment of qualifications and research project

- Minimum for admission to the oral exam: 30 points

- Maximum: 50 points

Only qualifications relating to the last 5 years shall be taken into consideration, with the exception of the University Degree (Diploma di laurea). Please, note that qualifications must be consistent with the PhD course. Points relating to qualifications shall be allocated on the basis of the following criteria:

- Graduation final mark. Undergraduates shall be evaluated on the basis of the Weighted Average Mark (WAM): max 10 points

- Reference letters: max 2 point

- Motivation Letter: max 1 point

- Publications: max 4 points

Points relating to the research project shall be allocated on the basis of the following criteria:

- Scientific value and ground-breaking nature of the proposal: max 13 points - description and structure of the propo

 

2. Oral exam

- Minimum for inclusion in the final ranking list :30 points

- Maximum: 50 points

Oral examination includes the presentation of the research project and is intended to assess the suitability of the applicant in respect of the pursuing of scientific research as well as the general knowledge of issues connected to the PhD course. The oral examination is carried out in English. Points relating to the oral examination shall be allocated on the basis of the following criteria:

- knowledge of foreign language: max 10 points

- research project presentation: max 35 points

- general knowledge of issues connected to the PhD course: max 5 points

Candidate selection and project's assignment

Candidates are selected through an interview by the selection Committee (in English). Each selected candidate indicates preferences among the thematic sections offered to the students. The assignment process will be carried out by the Steering Committee, taking into account individual preferences expressed by the selected candidates, their scientific and academic background and the specific areas of interest of the participating institutions, to obtain the best possible match between the candidate and the participating investigators.

 


Fellowship

Students entering the program will be granted a three year institutional fellowship, either provided by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research or, whenever available, by any of the participating institutions or by private institutions. Additional monthly allowances are provided for the period spent abroad by the students.
